With Seattle and Houston in the Western Conference finals and Columbus and Toronto in the Eastern Conference finals, the rest of the league is looking to start adding to their roster for 2018. A look at the latest MLS transfer rumors and confirmed moves.
Jernade Mead to Montreal Impact
ESPN FC has reported that the former Arsenal defender Jernade Mead is on Montreal’s radar. The 25-year-old left back currently plays for AFC United in Sweden but his contract with the club expires next month. Though multiple English clubs are looking to pick up the fullback, this seems like it would be a good move for Montreal in preparations for 2018 especially after losing Oyongo (see below)
Likelihood: 60% (chance of Mead signing with Impact)
Robinho to Orlando City
Robinho, the 33-year-old Brazilian midfielder could be on his way to Orlando City. The former Real Madrid and AC Milan striker would have to take a large pay cut, though, if this move were to go through. That, as well as the fact that Robinho is 33, makes this move seem very unlikely.
Likelihood: 30% (chance of Robinho signing with Orlando)
Miguel Ibarra to Leave Minnesota United
There are multiple MLS sides inquiring about the 27-year-old winger Miguel Ibarra, reports Metro. These teams include the LA Galaxy, Seattle Sounders, NYCFC and the Portland Timbers. If anyone on this list is going to go after Ibarra, though, it would be the Galaxy but it seems unlikely that the winger will leave Minnesota this offseason.
Likelihood: 50% (chance of Ibarra leaving with Minnesota)
Sergio Busquets to MLS
Sergio Busquets told Spanish media that he would like to experience another league outside of La Liga, naming MLS specifically. Being with Barcelona his entire professional career, he said he would like Barcelona to be his only club in Europe. The versatile midfielder would be a wonderful addition to any MLS side but as he starts to get older, he might not be the Barcelona player we all remember by the time he makes his way across the Atlantic.
Likelihood: 40% (chance of Busquets going to MLS)
Miguel Almiron to Europe
Last time we talked a little bit about Almiron transferring over to a European side. Though it still seems unlikely, Newcastle United is apparently very interested in Atlanta’s playmaker, with it being reported that if Almiron leaves, it is a 90% chance he will end up in England. Later reports have AC Milan among those interested as well.
Likelihood: 40% (chance of Almiron going to Europe)
Sacha Kljestan to Leave New York Red Bulls
It has been reported that the New York Red Bulls are actively shopping midfielder Sacha Kljestan with LAFC and the Galaxy both interested in his services. Even though Kljestan might not have had the prettiest of seasons, he was still extremely effective for the Red Bulls, especially towards the end of the season, and it would be mindblowing if Kljestan is traded away, especially after the club got rid of Dax last season.
Likelihood: 20% (chance of Kljestan leaving the Red Bulls)
Deigo Rossi to LAFC
Now, this could be a huge signing. Diego Rossi is a 19-year-old Uruguayan wonder kid that could shake up the league similarly to Miguel Almiron. If LAFC can pull off this expensive signing, it would be huge for the expansion side.
Likelihood: 75% (chance of Rossi signing with LAFC)
Giorgian De Arrascaeta to MLS
It has been reported that an undisclosed MLS side is trying to bring over the Uruguayan midfielder Giorgian de Arrascaeta. The 23-year-old was linked with Dortmund last year and could be huge for any MLS side.
Likelihood: 35% (chance of Arrascaeta coming to MLS)
Jack Harrison to Everton
Liverpool Echo has reported that Jack Harrison could leave NYCFC to replace Kevin Mirallas at Everton who looks to be on his way to West Ham. This would be a huge blow for NYCFC, but cashing in on Harrison in a big way, will make room for another big signing.
Likelihood: 50% (chance of Harrison signing with Everton)
Yaya Toure to NYCFC
While we have DP signings and midfield work engines getting younger and younger, NYCFC is rumored to try another Pirlo/Lampard experiment and sign Yaya Toure next summer. This is the sad reality of being owned by a Premier League side. Though this would be a terrible signing, it still seems likely.
Likelihood: 60% (chance of Yaya Toure signing with NYCFC)
Samuel Shashoua Loan to MLS
It is rumored that Tottenham’s 18-year-old forward could be loaned to the MLS for the 2018 season. The Revolution seems to be the most likely place for the English U-19 striker.
Likelihood: 50% (chance of Shashoua being loaned to MLS)

Ambroise Oyongo to Montpellier
The Montreal Impact have lost their leftback Ambroise Oyongo to Ligue 1 side Montpellier. He will be leaving on a free transfer with his contract ending at the end of the calendar year.
Multiple Players Leaving LA Galaxy
The LA Galaxy overhaul has officially begun with the side cutting ties with Jack McBean, Nathan Smith, Jaime Villarreal, Jose Villarreal and Raul Mendiola. After a disaster of a 2017 season, it should be no surprise that the Galaxy is making as many chances as they are.
Robbie Rogers Retires
Robbie Rogers has officially announced his retirement from professional soccer at age 30. He will end his career with two MLS Cups and two Supporters’ Shields trophies.
David Ousted to Leave Vancouver
It has been confirmed that goalkeeper David Ousted will not be returning Vancouver next season. He was apparently asked to take a pay cut in June but did not agree to the team’s request. His next destination is still unknown.
Multiple Players Leaving Orlando City
Orlando City released who the side was cutting ahead of the 2018 season. This list includes Josh Saunders, Seb Hines, Conor Donovan, Antonio Nocerino, Servando Carrasco, Dillon Powers, Giles Barnes and Hadji Barry. As Jason Kreis looks to make a push for the playoffs next season, look for some big names to be picked up ahead of first kick in March.
Julian Buescher Leaving DC United
Julian Buescher has announced on social media that he will not be part of DC United next season. No rumors have popped up about where the 24-year-old will end up next season.
Eirik Johansen Leaving NYCFC
It has been confirmed that Eirik Johansen will be leaving NYCFC ahead of 2018. His next destination is unknown but he will be looking for more playing time than he got at NYCFC.
Clint Dempsey Resigns with Seattle
Clint Dempsey has officially signed a one-year extension deal with the Seattle Sounders. After coming off an injury scare last year with his heart condition and an impressive 2017 season that won him MLS Comeback Player of the Year, Sounders fans should be excited to see him take the pitch again next year.
